So Tuesday marked the 30 week milestone! All seemed to go well at my doctor's appointment, and we had a growth ultrasound the next day. Babies are growing well, although as expected it has slowed a bit. Since the babies are bigger now, they had a very hard time getting measurements, but also because apparently "Big Boy Baby B" has wiggled his way under poor Baby A...Baby girl C must be loving her mini-suite up top! According to the measurements they got, their estimated weights are:
Baby A 3 lb. 0 oz (15th percentile)
Baby B 4 lb. 10 oz (seriously-94th percentile)
Baby C 3 lb. 8 oz (46th percentile)
The doctor stressed that they are ESTIMATED weights...it is not an exact science, but he says they are all growing as expected. Dave and I were a bit worried about Baby A, who I call "peanut", but the doc assured us everything is fine. He said the range for average is anything above the 10th percentile to the 90th. I feel a bit like I have a Grimm fairy tale going on (too big, too small, just right) but the most important thing is they are all healthy...strong heartbeats and "breathing" beautifully!
Now for the drama...no sooner had we returned home from the ultrasound appointment when I got a call from Dr. Starikov. He said my blood pressure was a bit high (136/80) at my Tuesday appointment, and he had asked them to retake it at the ultrasound office (they didn't). He wanted me to come back to have it retaken at the office...seriously?! Beside the fact that we JUST got back from the 40 minute commute, by this time we would have hit Providence rush hour, and my mom and Tim had just come over to cook us dinner. I asked if we could just get it taken at the Putnam office, but he really insisted I come to Providence. I smell a set up! So we ate dinner, waited out the rush hour block, and back to Providence we went. By this time the office was closed so we had to to go the emergency triage. When they took it there, it was 138 /90...alarm! Of course, looking back, no wonder it was so high. Anyway, so they put me on the fetal monitor and took some blood work. Dr. Starikov happened to be on duty that night, so he came to see me and just as I expected, said he wanted to admit me. Lucky for me, since being admitted last time, I keep a bag packed and bring it to all my appointments. After waiting for 5 hours while they "got a room ready", I was back on the 4th floor (high risk antenatal). By the time I got up there, it was 12:30 am, and they still had to hook me to the monitor again. I also got to be introduced to the lovely process of 24 hour urine collection...no more details needed. YUCK! So after I managed to sneak in about 3 hours of sleep until the doctors did their rounds at 5:30 am, they moved me to a different room that had "triplet" monitors (they can get all 3 babies on one machine). Unfortunately, the room is also an isolation room which apparently has its own ventilation system, which did not work! So it was about 75 degrees in there, which may not seem warm except when you are pregnant with triplets. I suffered through a few hours before asking if someone could look at it. Maintenance came and went, saying they'd fix it. I sweated it out until Dave came around 6:00 and said, "Why the heck is it so hot in here". Since he's NOT pregnant with triplets I knew it wasn't just me. He made a bit of a fuss until they finally moved me to my old room (there is no love lost between Dave and the charge nurse) but I was more grateful than embarrassed.
So here I am in my home away from home, but the good news is that all my tests came back clear...no pre-eclempsia. My pressure has dropped in the past 24 hours, and the doctors say I can go home today. Let's see how long they let me stay this time!
