Cameron and Evan are now awake about 2-3 hours a day...and at least one of those hours is "fussy time". Sophia saves her time for after 10 pm. She sits there with those big saucer eyes while mommy and daddy struggle to keep theirs open. Dave and I have tried a multitude of strategies to get them settled by 11 pm so we can get at least 3 hours before the 2 am feed. I found that if we wrap Evan in his swaddling before feeding him he falls asleep easier, and we can usually sneak him into his crib-if he is not fast asleep (and I mean deep sleep) when you put him in he will erupt into a straight up hissy fit, and you'll end up holding him for the next two hours. Cameron and Sophia are a bit trickier. You'll think they're fast asleep, get all snuggled into bed, start to drift off and BAM-they start wailing into the baby monitor. We have started alternating duty on the "graveyard" shift...one of us will be in charge from 11pm-2am so the other one can sleep. If a baby fusses more than a few minutes, they get "quarantined" to the guest bedroom and sleep with whoever is on duty in the bassinet. Of course, if they get sent there very little sleep will most likely be going on. Every once in a while they fuss past the 2am feed, but for the most part it's lights out after that, at least until about 5:45am when they get ready for the 6am feed.
I was doing the math the other day, and here's the numbers on what it takes to raise three infants at once...each week we go through:
*I have had to adjust the following numbers a few times since lack of sleep has destroyed my math skills!
- 392 oz of formula (in addition to 112 oz of breast milk)
- 126 bottles
- 168 diapers
- 336 wipes
- 21 onesies
- 42 bibs
- 4 loads of laundry
It's official...I am a mom with a minivan! We just got this 2007 Toyota Sienna, and I actually love it. I feel like that commercial...mommy like!
Sophia gets her own seat...after all she is a diva!
We have resorted to leaving their bibs on all day because sure enough, the moment you take it off they explode and spit up all over themselves...the less laundry I have to do the better.
