You Take the Good, You Take the Bad...

Well, we've got good news and bad news for our Evan. Good news is he's in a crib! That means he can monitor his body temperature all on his own. That also means he's over the 4 lb. weight mark! Atta boy! He is now taking 40-50 ml at each feed, which is helping him "bulk up" and "catch up" to his brother and sister.

Bad news is he had what is called a "spell" last night...aka apnea spell. His heart rate dropped to almost 62-very scary. The nurse I spoke to said she thinks it happened during one of his feedings (she wasn't on duty when it happened) which probably meant he was so busy eating he "forgot" to breathe. I've heard other NICU parents talk about it happening to their kids, but didn't think it could happen to mine. So what now? They monitor him closely and if he doesn't have another spell in 5 days, he can come home given that he's not having any other problems. So the earliest he would be home is Sunday. Not soon enough. So of course the nervous parents that Dave and I are-we are watching our two at home like a hawk (are they breathing?!?!) Very scary, but I know my Evan is a warrior, and he's in very good hands.

As for our two sweet peas at home, they survived their first pediatrician and visiting nurse weigh ins/visits. The pediatrician said they are doing awesome, and the nurse agrees. Cameron is now up to 5 lb. 7 oz, and Sophia is 5 lb. They've even grown an inch or two since birth! We are back to the pediatrician tomorrow for a more thorough check up.

For now Dave and my days consist of feeding, changing, and snuggling...and we wouldn't have it any other way!
