A Day in the Life...

So I can hardly believe my babies will be one month old tomorrow! It seems like just yesterday I was watching them do the hula dance in my belly...now I watch them eat, sleep, and poop! Things are going very well, to say we are busy is an understatement. We no longer have any concept of time-it is one big, long day. For anyone who is curious, here is how a typical day goes in the life of parents of triplets:
6:00 am drowsily turn off alarm, stumble to nursery, warm bottles, daddy changes diapers while mommy pumps, mommy and daddy feed babies (one gets to feed two at once)

7:00 am wrap up baby burritos, return to crib, stumble back to bed for an extra hour of sleep if we are lucky, otherwise we stumble downstairs for coffee and chores

8:00 or 9:00 am throw alarm clock across room, fall out of bed, crawl to nursery, mommy pumps AGAIN while daddy make two-three trips down stairs with precious cargo in tow

10:00am change diapers and dress babies, prepare and warm bottles, feed babies

11:00am mommy and daddy eat breakfast...or is it lunch?

12:00pm wash the 12 bottles that have piled up in the sink, mix formula and make bottles for rest of day

12:45pm maybe mommy and daddy shower and grab a snack if they have the energy, otherwise, more chores

2:00pm wake babies, change diapers, warm bottles, feed babies

3:00pm eat lunch...or early dinner?

3:30-5:45pm try to nap, fail miserably, hold fussy babies or do more chores (there really are that many)

6:00pm change diapers, warm bottles, feed babies

7:00pm eat dinner

8:00pm try again to nap, fail miserably, watch bad TV and zone out

10:00pm change diapers, feed babies, wrap up baby burritos, read story to three babies and feel silly about reading to three babies, carry babies up stairs and put to bed, crawl into bed, settle in for 3 seconds, hear fussy baby, stumble back to nursery, hold fussy baby, gently return baby to crib, crawl back into bed, repeat...

11:00pm-12:00 am finally fall asleep if lucky, if not, see above

2:00 jerk awake to alarm and realize it's going off because you have three babies...stumble out of bed, daddy changes diapers while mommy pumps, warm bottles, feed babies while trying not to fall asleep at the same time, return baby burritos to nursery, settle into bed, hear fussy baby, stumble to nursery, hold fussy baby...oh, you get the point

3:00-4:00am fall asleep if lucky...if not, well, you know

6:00am here we go again...

Pretty exciting stuff, is it not? I do have to admit, it's not as bad as I had anticipated. Then again, I am blessed with an amazing husband who does more than his share of the work, and manages to keep a sense of humor through it all. We also are blessed with wonderful family who lends a hand whenever possible. Not to mention we are just so thrilled to have three healthy and beautiful babies...they make it all worth it.

In between all this excitement, I am also attached to my breast pump machine for 15 minutes every two hours...and while we are on that subject I have to vent about all the crazy literature and well meaning lactation consultants that led me to believe I could possibly provide enough breast milk to exclusively feed three growing babies...that was all well and good when they were only eating 1/2-1 ounce at a time. Now that they are taking almost 3 ounces each, that is NOT enough. Sometimes I wonder if I should just walk around attached to it? Thank you for listening, I am not looking for advice or sympathy, just needed to vent.

Here are some great pictures...Dave and I have mastered carrying, holding, and feeding two babies at once. What we will do when they are too big, God only knows.

  1. You're doing awesome!! Sounds like the typical newborn schedule....x3 (yikes!). How long is Dave home? Everyone looks so happy:) xoxo Kate
p.s. I guess I should've had triplets. With each kid I pumped 32 oz. every 3 hours (no joke!). Talk about being a slave to the pump I was a human cow! We had to buy a separate freezer to store it all!
